A New One Mile Challenge Take up and enjoy the challenge of running one mile backwards.
Whether you an experienced elite backward runner, trying this out for a new challenge or are just up for something new, fun and different, there is a place for you. This is an ideal opportunity to try a running event where if you train for just 3 months you could be the winner. Everyone who has taken part in the last two years has given us 100 percent positive feedback about the race and many have smashed their PB's.

Training and preparation
Ideally you need to start training as soon as possible, running backwards twice a week and building up to 3 times a week. Look out for our training tips and advice on the beginners guide page & share your tips for training & nutrition via our Facebook page.
Is backward running safe?
Any sport has its risks, but this race is taking place in traffic free Heaton Park. The paths are
5 metres wide, so as you can see in the picture there is plenty of space for all backward runners, plus there will be ample signs and race marshals warning when to turn a corner. All we do recommend is that all entrants train for the event. See the benefits page for details of how this exercise can really help your daily health and fitness, plus increase your forward running times.
Fundraising for Charity
This is an excellent event to get people to sponsor you to take part and complete the course. Lets face it, how many of your friends can say that they have taken part in a backward run. We would like you to raise as much sponsorship as you can to help our official Manchester charities Forever Manchester and The Heroes Project. Both support local causes.
